Paul Potts Concert in Manila

Posted by Denice in

I first saw Paul Potts on TV when he was still a contestant in a famous music search Britain’s Got Talent. I still remember the time when he was asked by the judges what he was going to do and he said calmy, “I am going to sing opera”. When he started singing the rendition of Puccini's "Nessun Dorma," suddenly it seems that you have taken an Ephedrasil Hardcore as the sound of his powerful voice will make you drop off everything and almost unknowingly, you begin to shed tears. This humble and simple looking guy was a great tenor singer and you wonder if there’d be other contestants who could beat him.

A former mobile phone store manager and now one of the great tenor singers in the world, Paul Potts will have a concert in Manila this October 8, 2008 with his famous repertoire including the hits from his CD Albums “One Chance.” Other songs includes “Nessun Dorma,” “You Raise Me up” (Por Ti Sere), “Time to Say Goodbye” (Con Te Partiro), “Amapola” and “My Way” (A Mi Manera), among others.

I am sure the tears will fall in Araneta Coleseum the evening of October 8, 2008.

Rare Find # 1 – So In Love (Piano Instrumental)

Posted by Denice in

“Seek and you shall find…” All I need to know I learned from the Bible!

Take this splendid rendition by Hampton Hawes of So In Love solo piano instrumental. Just when I thought I’m the only one who can still manage to appreciate this 1930s song composed by Cole Porter, I realized that several versions are widely available in youtube after all. I was going to say that this is, by far, the best instrumental versions I have stumbled upon… but wait till you read my next article!

Music Downloading

Posted by Denice in ,

After I had my Ipod, I just find myself asking my husband more often to download for me free MP3 music over the net. He has also been busy converting my hard-to-find music collection from CD to MP3 format while working on my laptop. That’s why we are considering to add more computer memory so that I can still work faster on my computer.

After all, he already downloaded 800 plus music, three videos and still downloading more music albums for my Ipod.

My Favorite Cole Porter Songs

Posted by Denice in

I like music and movies but I tend to be selective when watching musicals. To be blunt about it, I did not enjoy Moulin Rouge nor Mama Mia (but I am a great admirer of the multi-talented Meryl Streep), I skipped Casino (although my sister said it’s worth a try) and I’ve been shying away from le operas.

However, I had fun watching De-Lovely (Love and Life of Cole Porter) and I couldn’t believe I watched it from beginning to end despite the fact that I’m not a fan of Kevin Kline and Ashley Judd.

I think what made it interesting for me is that the movie showed beautiful renditions of several Cole Porter songs which are my personal favorites like So In Love, Everytime We Say Goodbye, Night and Day and In the Still of the Night. Bonus for me would be the special appearances by my favorite singers such as Diana Krall and Natalie Cole.

Here are the songs and performers as featured in the movie (combining these big names into one soundtrack is such a rare occasion):

1.

It's De-Lovely by Robbie Williams

2.

Let's Do It (Let's Fall in Love) by Alanis Morissette

3.

Begin the Beguine by Sheryl Crow

4.

Let's Misbehave by Elvis Costello

5.

Be a Clown by Kevin Kline

6.

Night and Day by Kevin Kline

7.

True Love

8.

What Is This Thing Called Love? by Lemar

9.

I Love You by Mick Hucknall

10.

Just One of Those Things by Diana Krall

11.

Anything Goes by Caroline O'Connor

12.

Experiment by Kevin Kline

13.

Love for Sale by Vivian Green

14.

So in Love by Mario Frangoulis

15.

Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye by Natalie Cole

16.

Blow, Gabriel, Blow by Jonathan Pryce

17.

In the Still of the Night by Kevin Kline

18.

You're the Top by Cole Porter

Healthy, Comfy Feet

Posted by Denice in

When it comes to footwear, I’ve always been a fan of flats. Even when I reached puberty stage where every girl my age would be dreaming of high heels, I’ve been passing up the chance to wear one.

I love flat shoes, rubber shoes, flat sandals and all other footwear that spells “comfort.” If I have to wear heels, then it would have to be like those of Dansko: thick and rubber-like heels that can carry my entire weight. It has the sophistication of high heels minus the discomfort. I also like its designs that are true to Dansko’s quest for healthy feet.

Petula Clark

Petula Clark is the most successful British female solo artist, singer, actress and composer. The recipient of Grammy Hall of Fame will perform live in Manila, Philippines. At 76 years old, she is a Guinness book of World Record holder. She still maintains her voice and body as if she is taking diet pills. Clark is best known for her upbeat popular international hits of the 1960s, especially "Downtown", “I Know A Place”, I couldn’t Live with Out Your Love” with more than 70 million records sold worldwide.

My New Digital Camera

My sister won a Kodak EasyShare V803 digital camera as a price in a raffle draw in her office’s event. But since she already had one she gave it to me instead. Although my husband wanted a digital SLR he was also happy to have a new camera to use.

He immediately purchased a 1G SD card for it. While I bought a camera wallet for it.

I’m not surprised why my sister is fortunate in raffle draws. It’s probably her generous spirit going back to her. In fact, she also won an Ipod 80g Cassic and another Ipod shuffle in that same night as well.

My Husband’s Dream Home Theater System

Posted by Denice in

My husband is always dreaming of having a home theater system at home. Both of us love to watch movies but since our son is not yet ready to behave before a widescreen (we tried it once for “Fantastic 4” for me to say this) we can only watch movies via DVD player for almost 5 years now.

So it’s been my wish to have his ever dream home theater system come true --- to have a wide flat tv plasma or LCD and crystal clear sound speaker that comes with a comfortable family chair for us.

How much risk can you take?

Posted by Denice in

A professor in Finance once said to me that there are three (3) types of attitudes about risk. One is a risk taker. This is the type of person who plunges into futures trading which is the most volatile type of investment, for example, and certainly not for the faint hearted. The second type is the risk averse or those who avoid surprises and prefer predictable outcomes. The third type is a mixture of both. This refers to a person who takes calculated risk. From a business standpoint, the higher the risk, the higher the return. So, which one are you and how much risk can you take?
